Applied Numeracy Test Introduction:

In the CUT-E Applied Numeracy Test you solve 20 realistic word problems, split into four separately timed sections of five questions each: translation of units, the rule of three, percentage calculation, and areas and spaces.
Every section gives you 3 minutes and each question offers four options with only one correct answer.
A calculator plus pen and paper are allowed, exactly as in the real assessment.

TIPS:

Read the question before the numbers and decide first whether you need a conversion, a proportion, a percentage or an area.
Estimate before you calculate and rule out options that are obviously the wrong size, because many wrong options are built from common mistakes such as inverting a division, treating a diameter as a radius, or taking a percentage of the wrong base.
Some questions include figures you do not need, so do not force every number into your calculation.
Three points are awarded for each correct answer and one point is deducted for each wrong answer, so a wild guess costs more than leaving a question unanswered.
